They can be clogged if not regularly checked. This clogging can result in poor air ventilation, strained motor, and potential overheating and not turning on.

Another thing you should know is that the coils should always be clean. Keeping the unit clean and free from dust, debris or fallen leaves is a must to keep it in good working condition.

If there is shrubbery near the unit, make sure they don’t cover the unit or get in the way of its parts to work smoothly. Small dried leaves may fall in between the crevices of the unit and may result in overheating or malfunction.

The thermostat needs to be carefully checked, too.
